 THEATRE

Theatre is a collaborative form of fine art that uses live performers to present the experience of a real or imagined event before a live audience in a specific place. Theatre is a building or outdoor area that houses dramatic presentations, and stage entertainments.

WHAT IS THEATRE?

Theatre is a building or outdoor area for housing dramatic presentations, stage entertainments, or motion-picture shows. In dramatic arts or performance, theatre specifically refers to a live performance that involves actors and actresses who act out a real or imagined event before the audience. Performers on the stage use various means such as gestures, speech, music, song and dance to communicate with the audience.

WHAT IS CINEMA?

Cinema refers to a building that contains an auditorium for viewing films. Cinema can also refer to cinematography and the production of films as an art. There is no live-action here. In cinemas the film is projected with a movie projector at the front of the auditorium. Meanwhile, the sounds – dialogue and music are played through wall-mounted speakers.

THE MAIN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEATRE AND CINEMA- In cinema, the cinematographer can capture all the subtlety of emotions using a close-up shot of an actor’s face. However, this is not possible in theatre; the performers have to convey emotions using voice and body language. The main difference between theatre and cinema is that theatre involves live performances like plays, opera, ballet, and musical theatre, while cinema involves graphics.

TYPES OF THEATRES

Proscenium stage

Proscenium stages have an architectural frame, known as the proscenium arch, although not always arched in shape meaning the stage is gently sloped rising away from the audience.

Thrust stage

In these stages audience sits within three sides, these stage may be semi-circular or half a polygon on any sides.

Usually these type of stages are created to make a connection between actors and the audience.

Black-box theatre is adjustable performance spaces. Its most basic description is a simple, open space consisting of four walls, a floor, and a ceiling that are all painted black. The use of staging and lighting in Black Box Theatres can range from extremely minimal to very elaborate, depending on

the performances.

Site-specific theatre

Site-specific work means that utilizing a space is made a lot easier. Depending on the timescale of the project (including rehearsals), artists would get a significant amount of time at their chosen location. Allowing them to familiarize themselves with the space and utilize it to full advantage.
