What is the Trolley Problem?

Imagine a runaway trolley hurtling down the tracks, with five helpless individuals tied up and unable to escape. Now imagine you are standing beside a lever that, after pulling, will divert the trolley onto the another track.

On that second track stands only one individual who is in the trolley's way. Here is a major question for you: Would you by pulling the lever kill one to save five, or would you do nothing and continue with the trolley on its death dealing course? This ethical puzzle has been christened the Trolley Problem.

You Decide

Close your eyes and visualize that very clear scenario. Do you hear the trolley horn blaring? Can you feel the tracks trembling under your feet? Time is running out… and the decision is in your hands.

What will you decide?
