Has social media changed the way we speak and write English?
There is no doubt that social media has affected our lifestyle completely. We share our day to day schedule on our social media. Social media keep us more close to the people who are far from each other. Social media has influence the major part of our life weather consciously or unconsciously. As social media has given as the platform to express our culture, nationality, religion etc. People talk in a particular fashion same way people in social media use different language which are known as social media lingo. For eg- lol, ttul, gth, BTW, DM, BAE, asap, bts, dyk, FYI, NP, WFH and many more the list won't end. People on social media have evolved their vocabulary. Words which are not added in dictionary have meaning now.
With the rise of tiktok, reels and YouTube shorts, lip syncs also have been popular. Even the memes, the use of memes among the young generation has are tremendous effect with the rise of social media Languages used in social media have its own style. That are not grammatically correct but it's important for young generation to know these lingos so that they won't look outdated.
It's been a trend of using these lingos on your picture for caption. Captions like
“If you were looking for a sign, here it is.”
“Remember that happiness is a way of travel – not a destination.”
“Just because you're awake doesn't mean you should stop dreaming.”
“Be yourself, there's no one better.”
“Stress less and enjoy the best.”
“Look for the magic in every moment.”
May not be grammatically correct but it goes with trend so it works. People like this language and prefer to use it. But one can get fit into the trendy list but it's more important to gain knowledge and should know the correct English with proper pronunciation and grammar.
