PROBLEM IS MINDSET: NORTHEASTERN CITIZEN’S FACING RACISM IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY
India is a country were several types of people stays together, the taste, religion, culture, folks, festivals etc everything is so vibrant and joyful in our country but if we talk about human equality or religion equality then we lose most of the time. Today we will discuss about the racism northeastern citizen’s are facing from past how many years in its own country even we don’t know. Equality must be in every term not only gender or caste but also in citizenship, every person staying in their own country must feel safe & secure but why not with northeastern? Today we will highlight on some of the cases happened with northeastern’s in their own country:
·
In
2016 two young boys from Mizoram were beaten in banglore just for not speaking
the local language.
·
On
January 29, 2014 a young guy named Nido taniam was beaten to death in lajpat
nagar area of Delhi, the reason he looked simply different.
· Two students from Nagaland were brutally tortured for hours by local men in Goregaon to teach them a lesson that you don’t belong here. They said, “If you Northeast people come here we will kill you.”
Not only this if will we talk about
such situations, from ‘Chinky ’to‘Coronavirus’during pandemic also northeastern
citizens faced such horrible situations which are not acceptable as in human
behavior:
In India, the pandemic has reinforced racism against Northeast Indians, which the country has been grappling with this social problem in the last one decade or so. During the pandemic, the fight by Northeast Indians was with the mindset of the rest of Indians as much as the virus itself. It was a fight not only against the presumption of being ‘non-Indian’ with negative affiliation, or worse ‘unwanted Indians’, but also to get due recognition and acceptance as equal Indians. It was a fight not only against the presumption of being ‘non-Indian’ with negative affiliation, or worse ‘unwanted Indians’, but also to get due recognition and acceptance as equal Indians.
Actually the problem is occurred in our mindset the way we think is how we react and act problem is that we never talked about their culture, their stories and is not explored with rest of India. Northeastern culture and the history of it must be a part of school textbooks to counter racism even parents should also raise their children in a way were they should learn to respect every culture and their appearance they shouldn't discriminate among persons by what they are and from where they are! Not only this even Bollywood has done harm by not giving right information. Media and bloggers must spread about the beauty of hills, waterfall and nature of the northeastern parts of India. Government should take responsibility for teaching the country about history, culture and politics of this Nation.
We can bring huge changes only by doing some small changes.
