  बसौड़ा पर्व और इसका महत्व बसौड़ा, जिसे  शीतला सप्तमी  भी कहा जाता है, शीतला माता की पूजा का विशेष दिन है। इस दिन लोग चूल्हा नहीं जलाते और रात का बना बासी भोजन खाते हैं। मान्यता है कि शीतला माता रोगों, विशेषकर बुखार और त्वचा संबंधी बीमारियों से रक्षा करती हैं। उत्तर भारत में इस पर्व को बड़े उत्साह से मनाया जाता है। ज्वरासुर और शीतला माता की कथा एक प्राचीन कथा के अनुसार,  ज्वरासुर  नामक राक्षस बुखार और रोगों का प्रतीक था, जो बच्चों को पीड़ा देता था। शीतला माता ने उसे परास्त कर लोगों को रोगों से मुक्ति दिलाई। इसी कारण इस दिन माता की पूजा की जाती है और ठंडा भोजन ग्रहण किया जाता है, जिससे घर में शीतलता बनी रहे। वैज्ञानिक दृष्टिकोण और स्वास्थ्य लाभ वैज्ञानिक दृष्टि से भी यह परंपरा महत्वपूर्ण है। गर्मी के मौसम में संक्रामक रोग फैलते हैं, और ठंडा भोजन शरीर को शीतलता प्रदान करता है। इसके अलावा, चूल्हा न जलाने से घर में अतिरिक्त गर्मी नहीं बढ़ती। बसौड़ा केवल एक धार्मिक पर्व नहीं, बल्कि स्वस्थ जीवनशैली को अपनाने की सीख भी देता है।
