Lokha Chapter 1: Chandra

Lokha Chapter 1: Chandra – A New Dawn in Malayalam Cinema

The Malayalam film industry has always been known for provocative story, street savvy characters, and intense emotional depth. Living up to this bill, Lokha Chapter 1: Chandra is one of the most controversial films of 2025. With its intense plot, breathtaking visuals, and profound spiritual undertones, the film is a cinematic experience that lingers with the viewer even after the credits have rolled.

A Mysterious Beginning

Lokha Chapter 1: Chandra is the first part of a planned series of films named Lokha directed and written by Sujith Lal. The movie establishes the premise of an epic fantasy film with a mix of human emotion, mythology, and fantasy. The movie follows the life of Chandra, a mysterious kid with a dark history and an even darker destiny.

Filmed in an idyllic, mystical village with forests and myth around it, the life of Chandra gradually unwinds as it is witnessed by those around him — a healer, priest, and an ancient bard who has less to say than he believes. The film opens on cautious intimations of a cosmic connection, noting that Chandra is more than a man, but a vessel for something beyond — a go-between of heaven and earth.

Mind-Blowing Performance and Direction

The movie has Deepak Parambol playing Chandra, and he gives one of his best and emotionally nuanced performances so far. His appearance — a combination of sadness, stillness, and bottled-up anger — hits so hard to the feeling of a character in between destiny and decision. The supporting actors, such as Asha Sarath, Shine Tom Chacko, and Indrans, add realism and energy to their performances, anchoring the sci-fi narrative into human existence.

Director Sujith Lal needs to be lauded for his vision. He never hurries to reveal the secrets; he rather allows the story space to breathe, allowing room for the audience to bond with the Lokha world. The narrative is akin to poetry — calm and mysterious at first, and later piling up like a tempest of revelations and emotions.

Cinematography and Music – The Soul of the Film

At the visual level, Lokha Chapter 1: Chandra is a canvas. Cinematographer Sreejith Nair catches the unbridled natural beauty of Kerala landscapes — dense woods, bountiful rivers, and mist-shrouded hills — with eye-boggling accuracy. Each frame is akin to a painting, conveying Chandra's inner anguish and the mystic luminescence of the village.

The background score and music track by Jakes Bejoy add to the religiosity and tension of the film. The folk percussion instruments and frightening melodies fit the atmosphere of the film in an impeccable manner. There are a few songs, which are extremely emotional and convey the meaning of the story without disturbing its continuity.

Themes and Symbolism

Essentially, Lokha Chapter 1: Chandra is not just a fantasy drama — it's a treatise on life, religion, and destiny. The movie tackles the universal struggle between good and evil, not as opposing powers but as opposing powers within ourselves. Chandra's inner conflict is an allegory of man's constant struggle to maintain light and darkness.

The movie also raises some philosophical considerations about the universe and reincarnation, making subtle hints that every soul retains memories from their past life and an unfinished task.

A Promising Beginning

Lokha Chapter 1: Chandra is not merely a film — it is the commencement of a daring cinematic odyssey. Its rich story, corporeal imagery, and spiritual undertones attest to the fact that Malayalam cinema continues to set the pace in breakthrough endeavour.

As the credits progress, it is revealed — Chandra is only the first. The subsequent episodes of Lokha hold in store a still deeper exploration of this enchanted land, where every shadow holds a secret and every soul whispers a secret.
