Morocco Criticized for Killing Stray Dogs Before FIFA 2030

Mass Culling Draws Global Outrage

Morocco is killing thousands of stray dogs to prepare for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, sparking anger worldwide. Reports reveal authorities are using brutal methods like poisoning, shooting, and beating. Despite existing laws protecting street animals, these killings continue unchecked. Animal welfare groups are pushing for humane alternatives like trap-neuter-vaccinate-release (TNVR).

Shelters Struggle with Overcrowding
Overcrowded shelters are now overwhelmed with rescued dogs, many of whom are suffering from neglect and starvation. Shelter workers, despite their efforts, cannot keep up with the increasing number of animals. Advocacy groups predict that up to 3 million dogs might be killed unless urgent action is taken. To provide immediate relief, activists are fundraising $15,000 to support 1,000 dogs for a month.

Activists Demand Humane Solutions
FIFA has yet to comment but is assessing the situation. Meanwhile, advocacy groups are pressuring Morocco to stop the killings and adopt humane measures. They argue that these actions not only harm animals but also damage Morocco's global reputation as a World Cup host.
