Nepal Flash Floods: Hundreds Missing as Rescue Operations Continue

Nepal is facing a major natural disaster after devastating flash floods struck areas near the Nepal–Tibet border. The Rasuwa district has been among the worst affected, with floodwaters causing widespread destruction to roads, bridges, buildings and other infrastructure.

The disaster has also raised serious concern in India, as more than 100 Indian nationals have been reported missing. Authorities are continuing search and rescue operations to locate missing tourists and evacuate people stranded in affected areas.

 What Happened?

The flash flood surged through the Bhote Koshi River in Nepal's Rasuwa district. Reports indicate that the flood originated from the direction of Tibet, while the exact trigger is still being investigated. Possible factors include an avalanche, heavy rainfall or a glacial event.

The sudden rise in water caused extensive damage across settlements near the border. Several roads and bridges were damaged, making communication and transportation extremely difficult.


 Indians Among Those Missing

One of the biggest concerns for India is the number of Indian nationals who remain unaccounted for.

Initial reports listed 105 Indian nationals among hundreds of missing travellers, while newer updates have put the number of missing Indian nationals higher. The figures are changing as authorities receive new information and establish contact with travellers.

Many of the affected Indian travellers were reportedly travelling towards Tibet, including people associated with the Kailash Mansarovar route.

 Rescue Operations Underway

Nepal has launched a large-scale search and rescue operation. The Nepal Army, security personnel and helicopter teams have been deployed to reach stranded people and search for those who remain missing.

According to reports, military and civilian helicopters have already rescued people from affected areas, while additional personnel have been deployed for continuing operations.

The Indian government is also coordinating with Nepalese authorities. India's Embassy in Kathmandu is working with the Nepalese government to assist Indian nationals affected by the disaster. India has also sent humanitarian assistance and essential medicines to support Nepal's emergency response.


 A Humanitarian Crisis

The disaster is not only about damaged infrastructure. Behind the numbers are families waiting for information about their loved ones.

For many families in India, the uncertainty surrounding missing travellers has become the most difficult part of the situation. Authorities are working to verify the identities and locations of those who have been reported missing.

At the same time, rescue teams face difficult terrain, damaged roads and unstable conditions while trying to reach affected communities.

                                           

 Why This Disaster Matters 

The Nepal floods once again highlight the vulnerability of Himalayan regions to sudden natural disasters. Rapid changes in weather, landslides, glacial activity and difficult mountainous terrain can make such disasters particularly dangerous.

The incident also shows the importance of cooperation between neighbouring countries during emergencies. India and Nepal are coordinating their efforts to locate missing Indian nationals and provide humanitarian assistance.

 अयोध्या में  मन रहा है प्राण प्रतिष्ठा का उत्सव राम मंदिर में भगवान रामलला की प्राण प्रतिष्ठा समारोह के अवसर पर रामनगरी में 22 जनवरी से पहले तीन प्रतिमाएं  स्थापित किए जाने की तैयारी चल रही है।  प्राण प्रतिष्ठा तक विभिन्न  पूजन की तिथियां- अयोध्या में 18 जनवरी को लगभग एक बजे से गणपति पूजन किया जाएगा। इसके साथ ही जन्मभूमि मंदिर के गर्भगृह में रामलला की प्राण प्रतिष्ठा का प्रधान संकल्प लिया जाएगा। इसके साथ मात्रिका पूजन होगा। फिर पंचांग पूजन के बाद मंडप प्रवेश का आयोजन होगा। अयोध्या राम मंदिर में रामलला की प्राण प्रतिष्ठा के अनुष्ठान के तहत 17 को महिलाओं ने कलश यात्रा भी निकाली । रामलला की अनुकृति का राम मंदिर परिसर में प्रवेश कराया गया। यह अनुकृति दस किलो की है। असली रामलला की मूर्ति का वजन ज्यादा होने के कारण इस छोटी मूर्ति का नगर भ्रमण और मंदिर प्रवेश कराया गया है। देर शाम रामलला की असली मूर्ति भी राममंदिर पहुंच गई। आज यानी 18 जनवरी रामलला गर्भगृह में पहुंच जाएंगे। इससे पहले यज्ञ मंडप के 16 स्तंभों और चारों द्वारों का पूजन भी हुआ।  बताया गया है  कि 1...
