World theatre day
Every year World Theatre day is celebrated on 27th march it was initiated in 1961 by the ITI
International Theatre institute.
ITI is the world's largest performing arts organization founded in 1948 by theatre and dance
experts and UNESCO. ITI is a network in which approximately 92 cenrtre evolve. A centre is
composed of professionals activein the theatre life of country and representative of all
branchesof the performing arts. It's activities are conducted at national and international
level.
GOALS OF ITI
1. To encourage activities and creation in the field of the live performing arts such as
drama,dance,Music.
2. Establish international offices and establishment of ITI centres in all countries.
3. co-operates actively in the development of Theatre Nation and encourages cordinates
the theatrical workshops and meeting of experts
4. Depends the free development of the performing arts and contibutes to the protection
of the rights of performing arts professionals.
Various national and international events theatre events are organized to mark this
occassion. But due to COVID-19 ITI has decided to conduct the activities online.ITI
has encouraged all centres cooperating members and friends of ITI to send there video
at a given site.
The goals of World Theatre Day are:
To promote theatre in all its forms across the world.
To make people aware of the value of theatre in all its forms.
To enable theatre communities to promote their work on a broad scale so that governments
and opinion leaders are aware of the value and importance of dance in all its forms and
support it.
To enjoy theatre in all its forms for its own sake.
To share the joy for theatre with others.

2. OMKARA which was released in 2006was adapted from Shakespeares's OTHELLO
