What is Hydroxychloroquine?

Today , we are going to talk about the latest medicine( Hydroxychloroquine) which came as a global help from India to prevent Covid-19.
Hydroxychloroquine is basically a medicine  used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by bite of a mosquito. Its other uses include treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and porphyria cutanea tarda.
Now it has also been studied for prevention of Covid-19.
It's side effects include  vomiting, headache, changes in vision, and muscle weakness.
If severe, it may include allergic reactions. It is also used for treatment of rheumatic disease during pregnancy.



As India is largest producer for Hydroxychloroquine, whole world is asking for it from India.
The list of coutries where India has exported HCQ includes 13 countries including the United States of America, Spain, Germany, Bahrain, Brazil, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Seychelles, Mauritius and the Dominican Republic.
 Neighbouring countries like  Bangladesh will get 20 lakh HCQ tablets, Nepal - 10 lakh, Bhutan - 2 lakh, Sri Lanka - 10 lakh (not in first consignment), Afghanistan - 5 lakh, and Maldives - 2 lakh.
Industry experts believe that 10 crore tablets can treat 7 crore people.
Now ,the question comes that why only Hydroxychloroquine(HCQ).
The reason behind that is it has shown ability to limit replication of virus.
As per report, China stated that they had more than 100 patients with various degrees of illness across 10 hospitals. They were treated with various doses per patients.
Globally, this anti- malerial drug was  less produced because of low demand.
